Commercial vehicle drivers are required to undergo a Department of Transportation Physical Exam to ensure the safety of the driver and the public. Upon passing the exam, you will receive a Certificate of Good Health.

What is a DOT Physical Exam?

DOT Physical is an examination for commercial vehicle drivers, required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Passing the DOT Physical will prove that you are physically, mentally and emotionally fit to operate a commercial vehicle.

Who needs DOT Physicals?

DOT Physicals are required for drivers who:

  • Operate heavy vehicles with a gross weight of 10,000 pounds or more
  • Transport hazardous materials 
  • Are paid to drive a vehicle designed to transport more than 8 people, or
  • Operate a vehicle that carries more than 15 people
